Coffee Shop Hop: Best Toronto Cafes

Updated: Jul 17, 2020

ATTENTION TORONTO COFFEE ADDICTS:

If you’re an addict like me and can’t function without coffee, there are plenty of Instagrammable locations in Toronto to keep you caffeinated.

I’m gonna get right into it - below you’ll find everything you need to know about 8 of my favourite Toronto cafes. From signature intricate lattes, to best Instagram photo ops, these coffee shops in Toronto won’t disappoint!

1. Bluestone Lane

Vibe: Imagine if Hawaii and Australia had a baby - the result would be Bluestone Lane. Bright, and great for both catching up on emails and catching up with a friend.

Signature Coffee: Aussie Iced Latte: A double shot of espresso poured over whole milk and ice cream (worth the calories)

Food Reco's: No one knows how to do avo toast like the aussies! Try their classic AvoSmash. Seasoned w/ fresh lemon juice, salt & pepper, chili flakes & olive oil on toasted multigrain bread

Best Insta Spot: Super cute palm leave wall paper - full photoshoot worthy (and yes... we did break out the ring light inside #noshame.) Or if you wanna get real crafty, try a “through the window” shot with their plants and pillows on the window sill.

Milk Alternative Options: Soy, Almond, Oat

Locations: 37 King Street East & 2 Queen Street East

2. Odin

Vibe: Do you like interior design? Cause damn. Great workspace. Fast internet, large open tables for work meetings/coffee catch up dates.

Signature Coffee: Flat White with almond milk - simple choice, but perfectly made.

Patio: No :(

Food Reco's: The Banana Coconut Chia Pudding will have you going back for seconds - banana, coconut milk, organic chia seeds, coconut shred, maple syrup, Himalayan sea salt, dried mango strips.

Best Insta Spot: The black and white graffiti wall. Or if you’re feeling ambitious, work those angles and find a way to include the beautifully designed ceiling.

Milk Alternative Options: Coconut, Almond, Oat

Locations: 514 King Street East

3. Dark Horse Espresso Bar

Vibe: BOLD. You can expect caramel wood and high beamed ceilings. Depending on the location you’re visiting there's long bar like seating on John or massive communal tables on Spadina to chat up some cute boys- I mean… get some work done…

Signature Coffee: Americano - rich in color, with a swirling crema on top.

Patio: Yes at the 630 Queen Street East location!

Food Reco's: Their steak and brie panini is to die for, or their vegan wrap. It’s nice to have heartier food at this popular espresso bar.

Best Insta Spot: Big windows on Spadina and Queen locations offer fantastic selfie lighting ;)

Milk Alternative Options: Coconut, Almond, Oat

Locations: 215 Spadina Ave, 630 Queen Street East, 125 John Street, 416 Front Street East, 401 Richmond Street West, 120 Geary Avenue

4. Sorry Coffee

Vibe: Classy, simple, and borderline boujee. Black and white marble with copper accents are found throughout this tiny cafe at the back of Kit and Ace. A great grab and go!

Signature Coffee: Their classic cappuccinos and lattes are tasty, but the really cool part about Sorry Coffee is the signature cups. These blank to-go cups act as a canvas for local artists to design their own interpretation of a Sorry logo to be printed on.

Patio: No patio, but park directly outside.

Food Reco's: Croissants are all that are offered here, but we’re okay with that when they taste this good.

Best Insta Spot: Grab some chic sunglasses, a vogue magazine, and your latte design to create a very unapologetic flat lay photo.

Milk Alternative Options: Almond, Oat

Locations: 102 Bloor St W

5. Strangelove Coffee

Vibe: Extremely welcoming. Earthy and bright, merch available for purchase. Great for catching up with a friend. Spadina location has limited seating.

Signature Coffee: Lovers Latte <3 Their twist on the Vanilla Latte - notes of caramel, honeysuckle, and cinnamon. Hits. The. Spot.

Patio: No patio. But the Spadina location has some benches outside!

Food Reco's: The Barista’s Breakfast. 2 eggs, bacon, sourdough toast, house preserve, dressed greens, seasonal fruit, farmhouse cheddar. And be sure to try their famous twisted raspberry croissant for dessert!

Best Insta Spot: White wall with green flowers scattered, or check out the graffiti wall on the outside of the Spadina location. Cute shoot space.

Milk Alternative Options: Oat, Almond, Soy

Locations: 101 Spadina Ave, 627 Queen St, West, 200 Bay St, 40 King St

6. Dineen

Vibe: How do we say... um... adorable?! This classic spot is loved by many so it tends to be pretty busy. It's hard to find a spot to sit at peak hours.

Signature Coffee: Brazilian and Nicaraguan bean has a combination of chocolate and caramel notes used for espresso and drip coffee. Flavours on flavours on flavours.

Patio: YES!

Food Reco's: Their charcuterie board is now open at the Gerrard location, try it out!

Best Insta Spot: Windows surround the entire cafe, meaning you're more than likely to snag great lighting regardless of where you sit. You don't want to miss the beautifully designed floors as well.

Milk Alternative Options: Almond, Oat, Cashew, Soy

Locations: 140 Yonge St, 199 Bay St, 1042 Gerrard St East

7. Versus Coffee

Vibe: This little hole-in-the-wall is easy to walk past, but I urge you to stop and take a peak inside this cozy cafe. It has a bright and refreshing environment with incredible coffee.

Signature Coffee: RAINBOW LATTE. Tastes like a latte, and looks like a unicorn. Super trendy. V exciting. Would recommend.

Patio: YES!

Food Reco's: Chocolate Baileys Chia Pudding (...yes you read that right)

Best Insta Spot: A bit tiny for a full blown shoot, so I’d opt for a classic flat lay. Bright white walls and light brown woods compliment the swirl leaf made with the foam on top of your latte. (Shoot the rainbow latte for ample likes)

Milk Alternative Options: Almond, Oat, Soy

Locations: 70 Adelaide St E

8. Boxcar Social

Vibe: Want your coffee date to turn into a first date? Make sure to stick around until it's socially acceptable to order from their wine and whiskey menu. This rustic coffee bar turns into a lively wine bar come nightfall, and you might just find yourself here for longer than planned.

Signature Coffee: What the hell... make it a glass of wine ;)

Patio: YES at both locations!

Food Reco's: There is a magical window from which slices of Yeah Yeah's pizza appear, and we are here for it.

Best Insta Spot: The patio on Yonge makes my Pinterest heart flutter. An expansive deck wraps around a large tree, creating a cute treehouse vibe. Twinkle lights hang gracefully above an artistic graphite wall. Trust me, photo options are endless.

Milk Alternative Options: Almond, Oat

Locations: 70 Temperance St, 235 Queens Quay W, 1208 Yonge St
